INTRODUCING: HD MINERAL VIDEOS!

We recently purchased a powerful new camera, which takes higher-resolution photos than ever before, plus it makes HD videos!  Now we’ve begun to make high definition mineral movies to incorporate into our listings.  Here’s one example:

Why Make Mineral Movies?

There are several obvious advantages to seeing a video of a mineral specimen rather than simply still photos.  For one, you can see all sides of the specimen – especially important when the specimen is equally appealing from multiple angles.  Another is that a video gives you a clear idea of what a specimen will actually look like when you hold it in your hands and turn it to see how it looks from different angles.  And, since color rendition in a video is not something that can be changed in editing, our mineral movies show you actual “true-to-life” colors.  Here’s another video showing the great colors of a Rogerley Mine fluorite specimen:

What’s Different about Our Videos?

We’re still in the creative/exploration phase of this project, so we are learning as we go along.  One ground-breaking (pardon the pun!) technique we are using is multiple-scene videos.  My research showed that almost all of the other mineral dealers who are making videos use only a “merry-go-round” format.  We’ve been experimenting with shooting multiple scenes, including different magnifications, pan shots across the crystallized area, changing focus scenes, etc.  We’re also trying out various transitions between scenes, various effects, and more.  Our goal is to create more interesting and informative videos, to help our buyers make a better-informed decision when they purchase a specimen.

We use YouTube to host our videos.  That means you can see all of our mineral videos by clicking here: http://www.youtube.com/user/treasuremtnmining
